Stevens' Mistaken Identities No Curb Ahead (LoLo) (4
1/2 stars) - "Drummer Stevens fronts an edgy,
hard-bitting band of fusion renegades, including guitarist David
"Fuze" Fiuczynski and bassist Percy Jones.
This one goes over the top at times yet is grounded by Stevens'
insistent backbeats. A superb independent offering and a must
for hard-core "Fuze" fanatics."

"No
Curb Ahead is extreme world fusion that explodes with a high-level
mentality and a ferocious attitude. Stevens' world-class drumming
commands each track with elegance, evil, and sophistication."

Curb Ahead marks drummer Vic Stevens' second release on LoLo
Records as a bandleader, composer and performer with the accent
on explosive odd meter compositions and high voltage drumming.
Stevens compositional influences such as Zappa, Corea, Holdsworth
and Metheny can be heard throughout this instrumental Jazz / Rock
roller coaster of sounds which features Screaming Headless Torsos
guitarist David Fiuczynski, legendary Brand X bassist Percy Jones
and Demetrios Pappas on keyboards. "I wanted a guitarist
with a unique sound, not contrived, but free and open, and I was
impressed with the work that David ( Fiuczynski ) had done with
the Screaming Headless Torsos. David gave the music exactly what
it needed. I've been able to capture a lot of things I've always
wanted to say musically," says Stevens of No Curb Ahead.
His relentless drumming can be heard on such tunes as "Useless
Humans" and "A Party Of Five" while tracks like
"The Sun Rises In The East" and "I Travel Alone"
show his advanced compositional skills.
Vic's
Mistaken Identities title stems from his willingness to explore
all sides of the music. Vic explains, "A lot of times, I'm
identified as this kind of drummer, or that kind of drummer, because
of the projects I work with, when in reality, I have a wide variety
of personal tastes. I like to "slam it" and I also like
the classical approach with only percussion behind the music ."
